Technical explanations

If you wish to publish websites on the Internet, there are some technical aspects, which have to be taken into account.

On the left picture you will be able to see a graphical representation. In order to enlarge it, just click on it. A new window will open. You will be able to move this window by using the mouse. At the end, please close the window.

1. Your own PC

You will need your own PC to navigate through the Internet, exchange e-mails, and update your own web pages, but only if you wish to do it by yourself. Whenever you partially or fully administrate your own website, you will need your own PC to exchange data with the web server.

2. Web address

A web address (also called domain), for example: www.your-company.de, is necessary in order to be contacted through the Internet. By means of this address, the pages contained in your website will be visited from everywhere in the world.

3. Web server

The web server is a computer connected to the Internet by means of particularly fast lines. Thanks to this fact, it may be contacted from anywhere in the world. A "provider" mantains, supervises and pays the server. In the hard disk of the web server there is a space reserved for the storage of websites like www.your-company.de . Every web server has its own identity number, which is valid and unique in the whole world (the IP number). The web address (domain) is a synonym of this IP number.

4. Electronic mail address (E-mail)

The e-mail address designates a mailbox for which a space in the server's hard disk is reserved too. This server may be the own server or that of an external provider, for example: t-online, hotmail, or yahoo. A server is constantly active, that is, available anytime to receive data. The person connecting from his own PC establishes contact, firstly, with the e-mail server. All stored messages are sometimes downloaded to the PC, in order to check them without hurries.

5. E-mail redirection

If you have, for example, the domain www.your-company.de, then you would be able to choose the e-mail address you wished, for example:

boss@your-company.de
name.surname@your-company.de
info@your-company.de
etc.

Incoming e-mails from all over the world directed to www.your-company.de will land on your web server. There are two possibilities:

(a) You have a mailbox directly on this web server; thus, any incoming mail will be stored in this mailbox (and will be waiting for you to contact it).

(b) Yo do not have a mailbox on the web server, but you have a mailbox with an external provider (por ejemplo: company123@hotmail.com o super-company@t-online.de): in this case,e- mails may be immediately redirected to your e-mail address on the other web server (that is, company123@hotmail.com or super-company@t-online.de).

"Redirection" of e-mails is the most frequent solution, because it requires the minimal technical waste.
